Statement
I am a photographer from New Britain, Connecticut.
I was born and raised in Krakow, Poland.
I've always had an inner passion for photography, but it bloomed while I was taking a photography class as an art elective for my Business Degree.
I've been learning and pushing myself to grow in all areas of my photography since 2011.
During this time I took many photography classes, workshops and learned the crucial fundamentals of photography.
I've always been interested in the human's face and the figure, which has led me to nontraditional portraiture, rendered with strong color, pattern, and detail.
I believe there is beauty in every person.
It is my goal to reveal this through my photographic skills and my camera.
My passion is to discover this beauty through light and shadow. I enjoy exploring my imagination using my creativity.
For me, photography should cause an interaction between the viewer and the image - taking the mind away from the present into the realm of memory and dream.
My Story
When I was using my first Russian 35 mm film Smena camera - I never thought that I would become a photographer someday. When I came to the US with small children – my main camera was Pentax point and shoot. During this time I was a machine operator in manufacturing and I didn’t have time to create art. I only have time to capture as many memories with our family as I can. I've always had an inner passion for photography, but it bloomed while I was taking a photography class as an art elective (Photography 1 -Darkroom) for my Business Degree in 2011. I was using Canon film for this class. After my graduation, I decided to learn more about photography and I found out that I have to take Darkroom II before I can take any Digital Photography. I came to the point where everybody ends up. What camera I should buy. One of my teachers told me: do not buy any expensive camera until you will know what you want. I bought a used Olympus E-500 from my friend. I loved this camera but I knew that my next camera has to handle low light situations. Full frame Nikon was my choice. I photographed a lot of events and I have to change lenses so often. It was not working well. 2 lenses require repair. I decided to buy a 2nd full frame. I went to Poland with a group from Polish School; I couldn’t fit my Nikon into my baggage. I was in need of a travel camera that is small and rain resistant - mirrorless Olympus was my choice.
I received a Photography Certificate from Tunxis Community College in 2016 and a Creative Photography Certificate from Tunxis@Bristol Continuing Education in 2017.
I opened Alicja Photography LLC in 2016. I took a semester of taxes in college that I can manage everything by myself and know what I can put as business costs. I also took an offer as Photography Instructor at West Hartford Art League.
I was an official photographer for the Honorary Consul of Poland during the Polish President's visit, Miss Polonia Pageants Red Carpet Gala, School Musicals, Adoption Ceremony Event at Court House, and many concerts.
My work was published at Best of Photography Book by Sigma and in Photography Forum Magazine in 2016 & 2017, Aerospace Components Magazine in 2018, My Fantasy Art series was featured in CT Now & Hartford Courant in 2019. I was showing 60 photographs during a solo exhibit at the Art League of New Britain in 2018. I also exhibit and sell my work during Hartford Open Studio every year. I received a few Fine Art Photography Awards in the US and Europe. My work received critique from Lindsay Adler & LensCulture - Contemporary Photography Magazine.
